Take Time To Watch The Chicks
If you are a busy person like me, sometimes you forget to take time to enjoy the little things. Know that saying “Take Time To Smell The Roses”? Well I have a new saying, take time to watch the chicks!
After moving back to the south, my husband and I wanted to have chickens to collect our own eggs. Not only do they taste better from being fresh, we will know what they are fed. That way we know what we will be eating. Anyways, before we had a chance to buy our own hens my parents bought us six chicks as a present. First thing I noticed, they are just to cute!
These little buggers grow so fast. After just a few weeks of being inside with a light on them, they started out growing the tote we had them in. But at least they had most of their normal feathers now and not just the baby fluff. Plus the days here are now warm in the day. This allowed us to start putting them out in a large cage outside during the day. I mean we still brought them in at night so they would not get chilled.
It is amazing watching nature. They started right away pecking at bugs! They even ate the grass we fed them by hand. I have to say that I never knew that I would enjoy watching little chicks grow and learn. Even my husband has been laying on the ground in the grass watching them! He even is the one that shot the video, so y’all can enjoy it too.
Now a few weeks have past from the time this video was taken. They have all their normal feathers and it is warm enough to have them out at night. But we still close them in their little hen house at night so that nothing can get to them, as they are still about half the size as a full grown hen.
We have the hen house and the little play yard so that I can see it outside my window, even when I am working. I can not wait til they are big / old enough to run free in the yard in the day.
To get back to the point of this post, take time out of life to enjoy the little things. Even if that just means to take time to watch the chicks!
