Shower Curtain Made Into Window Curtains
Have you ever been given a shower curtain or found one at a thrift store and wonder what you could use it for? Maybe you bought a new one and thought about toss the old one because the bottom is stained up? They are one of those items that are super handy to have on hand as they can be reused for lots of things.
Shower curtains can be easily made into a window curtain in no time at all! I am going to share with you step by step how some of my family members turned an old worn out shower curtain into window curtains for their school room.
The kids did most the work! Not only is this a great way to teach them to reuse things and not to just toss it out, it is a great way for them to also learn home ec skills as well.
Supplies Needed:
- Buttons (I normally save them from old clothing before they are made into rags or used for other things)
- Wide Ribbon
- Scissors
- Needle
- Thread
- Stitch Witch
- Iron
- Fabric Shower Curtain
- Marker
The first thing you need to do is measure the length that you need the curtains to be.
Next, cut fabric shower curtain to that measured length.
Place stitch witch on the bottom area where you cut (on the back side) and fold the fabric over it. Then iron it in place.
Cut the ribbon to make tabs. We cut ours 2 1/2 inches long. You will need one of these ribbon pieces for each hole at the top of the curtain.
Now fold the cut ribbons in half and mark each in the same place as button guide. You can use a ruler or something else to make sure the mark is in the same spot on each ribbon.
Grab the needle and thread and sew buttons in place. Be sure to sew these on the mark on the ribbon making sure they are folded in half when you sew the button on.
Hang the rod at the top of the window that you measured.
Next, simply insert buttons into hook spaces across the top of your shower curtain. Then run the curtain rod through the ribbon tabs and you are all set!
Now you have some nice new curtains to keep the bright sun out when needed.
