If you are looking for a cute, fun and easy heart craft to do, I have just the one for you! I am going to show you how to make this string heart craft.
String Heart Craft
This is such a cute and easy craft and it is also a good one to work on fine motor skills with the kiddos if you want. However if you are doing this with kids, I would let them work with thicker paper and a blunt plastic needle to make this heart craft.
Pretty sure just about everyone will have all the supplies on hand to make this heart craft. You just need some paper, scrap paper works great. A needle, scissors and some string.
These are cute to display in a little shadow box, in scrapbooks, add it to a card to a loved one and that is just a few ways you can use/display this heart craft. You could even display it on a homemade card hanger like the one I made here.
These can be made in any size. It all depends on what you want to use them for and how big you want your heart craft to be.
Ready to get started?
Supplies Needed:
- Cardstock paper (or any thicker paper you have on hand for scrap paper)
- Yarn or embroidery floss
- Needle
- Scissors
- Template (or you can freehand the heart shape a square piece of paper)
Directions:
Use the needle to punch small holes along the line of the heart. Keep at least 0.5 cm gap between each hole. Next prepare the needle with the thread/string of your choice. Make the long piece of thread and pull it through the needle making the ends even, then tie a knot at the end.
Start from the bottom hole of the heart. Pull the needle (along with the thread) all the way through the bottom hole from the back of the paper through to the front.
Draw the needle to the hole opposite to the current one (so now go to the top hole) and draw it to the back side. Now pull out the needle to the front, from the hole next to the current one (left or right hole; choose any one side to continue the stitch).
Then pull the needle to the hole opposite to the current hole again. Draw it to the front again through the hole next to the current hole. Keep the sequence of either left or right. I am doing clockwise stitching.
Continue to repeat these steps until you reach the first sitch you did. After you reach the first hole, start doing a running stitch through the holes. Doing running stitch through the holes creates a nice dash border around the stitched heart pattern.
After you are done stitching draw the needle to the back side and tie a knot with any random stitch at the back side. Cut off the extra thread and it is done!
