Which I admit raw sugar is better for you than regular bleached sugar or any other sugar substitutes. There are in fact actual alternatives to sugar that are good for you, though. People are starting to use a lot of them in place of regular sugar, so here are 5 alternatives to sugar and how they are better for you.
Honey:
Almost everyone knows about this one, people use it to sweeten their tea and sometimes coffee. It can also be used in place of sugar in many other things like cooking and baking. It is probably the best choice for an alternative because it is just as sweet but unlike sugar, it is very rich in nutrients and you can buy raw organic honey which has never been processed. Altogether it is a win-win, except the fact that some dislike the flavor.
Brown Rice Syrup:
Brown rice syrup is made from cooked brown rice that is then exposed to enzymes that break the brown rice down into a sweet alternative to sugar. The best part about this alternative is that it contains no fructose, which is great because it will not raise blood sugar levels as much. It can be used in place of sugar for almost anything that needs sweetening just like honey.
Molasses:
Another one that may people know about but probably don’t use often because of its distinct flavor. It is great to use in cooking as an alternative to sugar. Molasses is very rich in nutrients such as zinc, magnesium, calcium, and potassium which have been extracted from sugar during the refining process. It is also rich in minerals and if you are vegan it is a great source of iron.
Coconut Palm Sugar:
This sugar is completely raw and is the extracted sap from the coconut palm tree. It is then boiled and dehydrated. It is low in fructose, but very high in potassium and vitamin C. Just be careful when shopping for this sugar, be sure to look at the labels because sometimes it is mixed with regular sugar.
Date Sugar:
Made from dehydrated dates that are then ground up. Date sugar is a great alternative to brown sugar due to its clumpier texture. You can buy it completely organic with no additives and it has a high antioxidant content along with potassium.
There are plenty of other sugar alternatives out there that are so much healthier. These are just 5 alternatives to sugar and how they are healthy for you.
