Cinnamon and Sugar Scone Recipe
If you have never had a scone before, you are totally missing out. They are a tasty little treat that is kind of a cross of a biscuit and a cake. The only downside to making this cinnamon and sugar scone recipe is trying to eat just one. They are that good!
While this recipe does not include raisins, if you are a fan of them a small handful would be a great addition.
This is made in a cast-iron skillet. You could use another pan if you would like. I just like the way that the cast iron cooks food.
How To Make Cinnamon and Sugar Scones:
First, you want to preheat your oven to 425 degrees. Then grease a cast-iron skillet and set aside.
Then cut butter into small cubes.
Grab a large mixing bowl and add the sugar, salt, flour, baking soda, and baking powder. Mix until combined.
Next, cut half the butter into the flour mixture. It is ok to have some small pieces of butter that are not mixed.
Now in another mixing bowl, beat the buttermilk, vanilla, and eggs until fully blended. Then add the buttermilk mixture into the flour mixture. Mix until combined.
In a separate bowl or glass measuring cup, add remaining butter, brown sugar, and the cinnamon. Microwave for about 30 seconds or until it is melted. Allow to cool slightly, then carefully pour the mixture onto a sheet of parchment paper. Cover with another piece of parchment paper (or fold it over) and press flat. Place in the freezer to harden for a few minutes.
After it has chilled, cut the cinnamon butter into pieces. Then stir the pieces into the dough mixture.
Spread the dough mixture into the skillet. Make slight cut marks so that it shows eight pieces. Bake for 23-25 minutes.
Remove from oven and allow to cool. You can store in an airtight container for up to four days.
