Essential Oil for Headaches
If you suffer from headaches, either occasionally or regularly, they can be a real pain. A headache is never “just a headache” as it affects the rest of your body too. It can make it difficult to concentrate, to work, to sleep, or to have any fun or relax. Basically, headaches can make you miserable. If you are looking for ways to treat them naturally or looking for essential oil for headaches, you have come to the right place!
There are some essential oils that many people have found that give them relief. It’s worth it to give it a try and see if any of them help out your symptoms.
When choosing which essential oil for headaches to use, you should also consider the possible cause of your headache. When you know the source, you can treat the source, and this is also better than just guessing. Here are some known causes of headaches:
- Menstrual cycle
- Physical activity
If you know what is triggering your headaches, it can help you pick an essential oil that targets that cause.
Here are some known essential oil for headaches:
Tei fu, Tea Tree, Eucalyptus and Cypress Oils:
They are believed to help with congestion, infection, mucus in the nasal passages and sinus issues that lead to headaches. If you clear out your sinuses with these oils, your headaches will likely ease off on their own. I personally really like and find that the Tei fu oil works really well for me when I have this type of headache.
Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Lavender and Rosemary Essential Oils:
Are great for relieving stress and helping you relax. If you have tension headaches, headaches that come on at the end of the day when you feel tired, or stress headaches, these oils might help you. It’s even more effective if you take time to relax in a quiet, comfortable place while using the oils.
Peppermint, Lavender and Frankincense Essential Oils:
Can sometimes be used to help what is called “rebound headaches”. When your headaches are being triggered by medications you must take, or even medications you’re taking for headaches, these oils can help you break that cycle.
Frankincense and Peppermint Oils:
Have been proven helpful to many people with cluster headaches. They can help with stabbing pain that comes with these types of headaches.
Lavender, Rosewood, Peppermint and Eucalyptus Essential Oils:
Can help with migraine-type headaches that come on with sensitivity to light and other related symptoms. They can also help ease nausea that comes with these types of headaches for many people.
An essential oil is not a cure-all or a quick fix. They don’t work for everyone and they don’t work for every person all of the time. Sometimes you need to find the right one, or the right combination of oils to help your symptoms. However, many people do find relief from headaches by using oils so it’s definitely worth trying for yourself if you’re suffering from headaches.
If you are new to essential oils and this is your first time using them, be sure to take some time to learn how to use them properly so you do not have any problems. While they are completely natural, they are dangerous when not used correctly, especially certain oils that are very powerful.
