Peppermint Oil Benefits
When it comes to essential oils, peppermint oil is among the most beneficial. Whether you purchase it commercially or make it yourself, it probably won’t take long for you to wonder how you ever managed without it.
The first recorded use of peppermint can be traced back to 23AD. Both the Romans and Greeks used the pungent herb to flavor their wine and sauces.
This mint then made its way to England, where it became widely available around 1750. In the United States, peppermint started to take root (no pun intended) during the early 1800s.

Headaches:
According to a 2007 study, applying diluted peppermint oil directly to your forehead can relieve pain in as little as 15 minutes. If a migraine is making you nauseous, inhaling the oil is also recommended.
Urinary Tract Infection:
Although research is still underway, peppermint oil is thought to be effective for treating urinary tract infections. This is due to the fact that the oil contains many antibacterial qualities, which are known to assist in reducing many types of infection.
Respiratory Problems:
If you’re dealing with any number of respiratory issues (asthma, nasal congestion, bronchitis, sinusitis or the flu), peppermint oil can help. It happens to be a popular ingredient in many over-the-counter cold remedies. Because it’s an expectorant, it provides instant yet temporary relief.
Bad Breath:
Peppermint oil not only kicks bad breath to the curb, it also helps to ward off germs that collect on the teeth and gums. Some dentists even add the oil to their patient’s post-operative oxygen, as a means to help relieve mouth pain.
Homemade Peppermint Oil:
Peppermint is quite easy to grow! It thrives in almost any climate. That being said, you might want to consider making peppermint essential oil at home. It’s most likely easier than you think!
Basically, the process involves crushing peppermint leaves (in a glass jar) and then covering them with grapeseed or olive oil. After shaking the tightly closed jar, store the oil for three days. Next, strain it and discard the leaves. Pour the oil back into the jar and repeat the steps until it reaches your desired potency level.
To use, dilute the peppermint oil in a carrier oil such as almond or coconut. The standard mix is typically 1.5 ounces of carrier oil for every 20 drops of peppermint oil.
Now that you know more about peppermint essential oil and its uses, there’s really no better time to start using it whenever the situation dictates. I can almost guarantee you’ll find it highly beneficial. Peppermint, it’s not just for candy anymore!
