Top 10 Uses for Orange Essential Oil
Orange essential oil is one of the most versatile and sweet oils you can find. Its cost is low, and being a citrus oil, it is a powerful one that you can be used many different ways.
Be sure your oil is a pure one before using it for these suggestions. Some oils on the market are combined with toxic perfume ingredients that ruin their benefits and are terrible for your body. If your oil says anything like “For aromatherapy use only” it is not safe.
That being said, citrus oils literally break down toxins. If you use them in any type of container that is plastic, they will begin to eat into that plastic and ruin it and the product inside it, so always use glass or stainless steel to be safe.
That may sound scary, but as long as you follow that rule, you will get wonderful benefits from orange essential oil and it works in your favor using one with that kind of power.
So here are the top 10 uses for orange:
1. Use it to polish furniture:
If you use a couple drops on a soft rag, you can rub it on wood furniture, or surfaces that are wood, and polish them. It removes any built up residue and leaves a lovely shine that works much better than any toxic furniture polish does, and you’re not having to breathe in that stuff either!
2. Freshen up your bathroom:
Put a drop inside your toilet paper roll to help keep a fresh scent that is close to the stinkiest area in the room!
You can also put a few drops on a cotton ball and put in cabinets, or tuck under corners or places in the bathroom as an air freshener as well.
3. Add a couple drops to your daily water intake, or to a glass of tea, iced or hot:
Orange is very high in antioxidants, as well as being purifying, and it tastes amazing. Put it into your daily drink routine and your body will thank you. If you make a pitcher of water or tea for your family and leave it in the refrigerator, just make sure they know it’s in there, so that they can give it a stir before they pour and drink. The oil likes to gather at the top after it has been sitting, and they’ll get it all in one swallow if they’re not careful. It is very refreshing and helps get that water in for people who don’t like to drink water.
You MUST be using pure oil that is safe for dietary supplements to do this.
4. Use it to help relieve an uncomfortable tummy or pain from acid:
You can rub a drop or two directly onto your belly when it feels upset, or add it to a drop of your favorite carrier oil, such as fractionated coconut oil, and rub on.
Another way to use it and have it handy for when you need it away from home is to make a roller bottle blend by using a carrier oil, orange and fennel oil. Use a 10 ml. size bottle and then add 12 drops of orange oil into the bottle, and then add 10 drops of fennel and then top off the rest of the bottle with the carrier oil. Roll it right over your heart, chest, or tummy when you are experiencing nausea or acid pain. Also, apply it to the wrists for nausea and inhale it a few times as well. Both the fennel and the orange work so well for this and it is so nice to have on hand in a pinch.
5. Use in your daily routine to help fight off seasonal threats:
You can take a few drops in a veggie capsule or put into your morning water to help fight off any junk that you may be trying to catch. Use 2 to 3 drops along with oregano every 4 to 6 hours when you have caught a bug, along with drinking plenty of water, and it will help chase it out fast.
You MUST be using pure oil that is safe for dietary supplements to do this.
6. Make delicious baked goods with it:
Add about 5 drops of orange essential oil to any chocolate recipe, such as brownies, cake or cookies, when you are mixing and be sure to disperse it well. It adds such a great flavor and people will ask what you did to make it taste so good!
You MUST be using pure oil that is safe for dietary supplements to do this.
7. Use it to uplift mood:
Orange is so good for making you feel refreshed and happy when you smell it. Essential oils have the ability to affect mood and emotions and this one is a happy oil. Use it on the wrists, back of the neck or in a diffuser to help you cheer up when you are down, or for a great afternoon pick me up, when you are struggling to get through.
8. All-purpose cleaning spray:
Make an all-purpose cleaner by combining, in a glass or stainless steel spray bottle, 12 drops of orange essential oil, 6 drops clove and 8 drops rosemary oil, then top off with purified water and spray on surfaces for a way to be sure any germs and bacteria that are hanging around are taken care of.
9. Bathroom Spray:
Make a wonderful smelling spray for your guests and family to use in the bathroom to help eliminate odors, by using a small spray bottle, such as a glass one. (These are normally either 2 or 4 ounces in size) Add in 6 drops orange, 7 drops white fir or douglas fir, and top off with distilled water.
10. Make a perfume or cologne for someone special:
Orange blends well with any oil that has an earthy scent or a woodsy scent such as white fir, douglas fir, patchouli, vetiver, arborvitae, or cedarwood.
Using a 10 ml. size roller bottle, blend about 8 to 10 drops of orange with any of those oils, approximately 8 to 12 drops, depending on your preference, and top off with a carrier oil. This can work for men or women.
