DIY Fruit Bowl Display With Banana Hook
Are you in need of a new fruit bowl? Maybe one with holes in it for good airflow but also has a hook to hang your bananas from? While these can be bought at places like Amazon, it can also be an easy DIY project. I am going how I made this easy DIY fruit bowl display with a banana hook.
First off you need to see if you already have items in the kitchen that you could use. If not a great place to find the supplies needed to make this fruit bowl is yard sales or thrift stores like Goodwill. We found the hook and the colander at a Goodwill store for much cheaper than it would be to buy a new fruit holder with banana hook at a store or online.
I think one of the things I like most about this project is that it is super easy! It only takes a total of about five minutes to make it. If you can hold a drill, then you can make this project.
I have the supplies listed below that I used, however, feel free to change it up. I mean if you have another bowl that you want to use or another type of hook, feel free to do so. This is more just to give you an idea of how to think outside the box.
Supplies Needed:
- 1 Large Colander (or another type of bowl)
- 1 Banana Hanger Hook (or another type of hook such as a stand that holds a globe with a hook attached)
- Drill with a bit the size of the bolt
- 1 Bolt with Nut (I used a 1 1/2 inch by 1/4 bolt for mine)
The first thing you need to do is drill a hole in the center of the colander or bowl that you are using. A few things to note when doing this. Make sure you have it on something that you don’t mind if you drill into as sometimes the drill may go a little faster then you want and you may not stop it right when you punch through.
The other thing I did was put a cloth down to catch all the little metal shavings for easy cleanup.
After you have made the hole, give the colander a rinse off to make sure there are no metal shavings on it. If you have any metal pieces still attached on the back side you can use a pair of pliers to pull them off.
Attaching The Hook To the Bowl:
Now you need to remove the bolt that is already in the base of the banana hook (if you have a bolt in yours that is). If you don’t have a bolt in yours, you may need to drill a hole in the bottom of your hook stand that you are using.
Take the longer bolt (mine was an inch and a 1/2) and put it through the base of your hook stand.
Then push the bolt/stand inside the colander and through the hole, you drilled in the colander. After it is through simply screw the nut on tight to hold it together.
That is it! You now have a handy new fruit bowl with banana hook to hold all your fresh produce.
