Oatmeal is such a healthy food for you and your heart. While it does have carbs, it is packed with fiber which means you will not get that carb fast crash. Probably why they call it a meal that will stick with you.
There are endless different ways to make flavored oatmeal. While you can buy those preflavored packs, they also like to add in extra sugar and additives to them too. So we normally just buy a large container of plain oats and then flavor them for whatever we are in the mood for that day.

This is sweetened with Medjool dates. If dates are not your thing, feel free to sweeten it with your sweetener of choice. Same goes for the milk. We used Almond milk but you could use soy, coconut or even dairy milk. I love it when a recipe can be easily adjusted to fit many dietary needs!

Healthy Caramel Apple Oatmeal Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 Tbsp Flax Seeds
- 1 Cup Almond Milk or milk of your choice
- 1/2 Cup Water
- 1/2 Cup Oats either quick or Old-Fashioned will work
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 8 Dates pitted
- 2 tsp Cinnamon
- 1 Medium Apple
Instructions

In a blender, add ½ the almond milk, dates and vanilla extract.

Blend until smooth, this is the homemade caramel sauce.

Chop apple into small pieces and set aside.

Combine oats, water, remaining almond milk and cinnamon to a small pot.

Cook on low for 5 minutes on low/medium, frequently stirring.

Add apples and flax seeds to oatmeal and stir until combined.

Add ¾ off the date “caramel” and mix.

Serve in a bowl and top with remaining date caramel.
