Once you’ve determined the entry point of the arm of ants that’s taken over your home, it’s time to figure out how you will naturally get rid of the ants in your home. This happens every year for many homes across the world. While ants aren’t necessarily a sign of a dirty home, it can make you feel like your house is unsanitary.
Today I wanted to share a few tips to naturally get rid of ants in your home. Doing it naturally can be really handy when you have pets or children.
Determine What Species of Ant:
The first step to naturally get rid of ants in your home is to determine what species of ant you’re dealing with. Doing this will help you figure out the best method to use to get rid of the ants as not all ants are attracted or repelled by the same things.
Use Vinegar:
Buy a spray bottle at the local dollar store or find one at a thrift store. Fill the spray bottle with white vinegar. You can spray this white vinegar anywhere you see ant trails, even locations that pets and children frequent. Allow the vinegar to dry and repeat the process a few times throughout the day. You will eventually see your house ants leave the home.
Spray Lemon Juice:
You may also use lemon juice in the same method as vinegar. Spray lemon juice around where the entryways for ants in your home are. The lemon juice is known to mess up ants naturally ability to find their trail into the home and back out into the colony. This acidic mix is also safe for children and pets to be around.
Cinnamon Essential Oils:
You can use any form of cinnamon to get those house ants to leave your home. Some people use a blend of cinnamon essential oils sprayed on windowsills and other nooks and crannies within the home. Other people have left piles of cinnamon throughout the home in little corners where they see ants have entered their home.
Peppermint and Liquid Soap:
Mix one part liquid soap to one part peppermint essential oil, spray this mixture on the areas where the house ants have entered your home. The combination of liquid soap with peppermint will help deter the ants and catch them dead in their literal tracks. Repeat this process a few times a day to fully kill off all of the ants in your home.
Borax and Sugar:
While borax can be poisonous if not used correctly, you can easily adjust how you work this natural remedy to get rid of ants in your home. Even with it being natural I still would put it in a place out of reach of pets and kids. You could always place inside of a sealed container with a tiny hole cut into for ants to get in.
Take a mixture of ½ cup sugar with 3 tablespoons of borax soaked in one cup of warm water. Place a few drops in a shallow dish near entry points of the ants. You can also soak a cotton ball in the mixture then place them around where ants come in.
Getting rid of ants in your home will take a lot of work, while there are these natural remedies, you’ll also have to work to keep your house clean from any crumbs that may attract them. Make it good practice to wash dishes frequently, wipe down counters with a cleaner and be sure that crumbs aren’t left on any surface. During the spring season when ants are at their peak, use containers that fully seal up sugar and other sweets that may attract ants into your home.
