Essential Oils For Sleep
If you struggle with insomnia, like millions of other people in the world, or if you just have a difficult time falling asleep sometimes, you might be happy to know that there are essential oils for sleep. There are several different essential oils that have shown some people relief when it comes to getting more sleep at night, quality sleep at night, and falling asleep faster.
It’s not a miracle cure and if your sleep problems persist for a long time, you should always see a doctor to make sure there isn’t an underlying medical cause, but many people do find essential oils helpful.
Lack of sleep creates real problems you might not even realize. It will leave you physically and mentally drained. Sleep is when your body regenerates and restarts itself. It’s when you heal and recover from the day. When you don’t get enough sleep, you weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to illness, you can have poor concentration and irritability, and a whole host of other issues.
So let’s take a look at some essential oils for sleep:
Lavender oil – helps you relax
Ylang-Ylang – relieves stress
Roman Chamomile – promotes relaxation and relieves stress
Frankincense – relieves anxiety and depression
Vetiver – helps relieve stress, anxiety and nervousness
Marjoram – promotes calmness and has sedating properties
Clary Sage – relieve stress and ease depression
Valerian – relieves anxiety and nervousness
Patchouli – promotes peacefulness
Cedarwood – induce calmness and relaxation
Sandalwood – relieves stress and anxiety
Another great thing about essential oils is that you can actually blend these oils so you might use two or more different essential oils listed above to help you sleep. It’s all about finding the root cause of your lack of sleep first, however. If you’re having trouble relaxing to fall asleep, or if you’re feeling anxiety when it’s time to go to bed, this is different from if you have pain or other issues.
In addition to essential oils to help you sleep, you should consider other natural remedies. When used with the oils above, it can really make a difference in your ability to get rest at night. For example, you should keep a regular sleep schedule, even on the weekends.
You should try to avoid eating a big meal right before bed, and consuming caffeine. You should also be careful of those “nightcaps”. Many people use alcohol to help them fall asleep but this can have the opposite effect, making it more difficult for you to sleep. Some people also become dependent on it as a way to fall asleep, which creates another problem in itself.
