Fennel essential oil is one that is not talked about enough. It has many benefits for the body. Although it may not be the favorite for its scent, it is really a great oil to have on hand for so many reasons. Fennel is an oil that comes from steam distilling the seeds of the plant. It can be described as strengthening, purifying and supporting. It is great for culinary use and a little goes a long way. So it lasts longer and saves money when using instead of the herbal form of the plant.
Fennel Essential Oil Uses for Women’s Health
It was used by Ancient Roman warriors to give them strength during battle. Its main constituents are benzene, anethole, and limonene. Its top properties include antispasmodic, emmenagogue, galactagogue, diuretic, mucolytic, digestive and anti-inflammatory.
When blending fennel with other oils, it blends wonderfully with lavender, peppermint, and basil. One thing to note about fennel essential oil is that it can be a hotter oil. Although it is not as hot as some others. It is safer to dilute it for sensitive or older skin, as well as babies and children. As it can cause skin sensitivity. Caution is also given in pregnant women and for children under 5 years old. Also, DO NOT use for anyone who suffers from epilepsy.
Here are a few common uses for fennel essential oil that it is well known for, for general health before we get into the uses for women.
Common Uses For Fennel Essential Oil:
Nausea, Colic, and Flatulence: Take internally in a glass of water or a capsule or rub on to abdomen. Even taking a deep inhale of fennel can relieve nausea almost immediately.
Cough and congestion: Apply along with a carrier oil or lotion to chest and neck, and also on the bottom of the feet to relieve and help open airways.
For cramps or muscle spasms: Dilute and rub topically on the area of pain or distress.
Intestinal Parasites and sluggish bowels: Take internally in a capsule or in a glass of water to help with both these issues. For parasites, do more than once per day and take garlic pill as well if you can along with the essential oil.
Antiseptic for after surgeries or cesarean delivery: Apply diluted to the area as needed, once or twice daily to help keep the area clean and heal nicely.
Hunger Pains: use internally in capsule or glass of water to help curb hunger as needed.
To increase sex drive: Apply topically, diluted if necessary to lower abdomen or wrists.
For backache or lower back pain: Apply to lower back and also the bottom of the feet, along with a carrier oil to help relieve the pain and inflammation. Add peppermint and/or frankincense to get an even better result. Take internally as well in a capsule or glass of water for the same issue.
Fennel Essential Oil Top Uses For Women’s Health:
Menstrual issues and PMS: Take internally in a capsule or in a glass of water, or also can be applied topically. Apply to the area over female organs and on the bottom of the feet. Will help support healthy menstruation and to balance your cycle.
Menopause or pre menopause symptoms: Take internally in glass of water or in a capsule. You can also gently massage over the abdomen, diluting if needed. Use daily if symptoms are consistently uncomfortable, otherwise use as needed.
Breast feeding or to increase milk supply: Apply diluted to breasts or take internally in a capsule or in a glass of water. You can also use clary sage and/ or rosemary to help this as well. If this is an ongoing issue, you can make a roller ball remedy blend. Put 10 drops of each of those oils, topped off with a carrier oil. Such as fractionated coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil, in a 10 ml. size bottle and apply to each breast daily. This helps keep you from having to open each bottle every time and also from getting the oils on your hands.
Edema and fluid retention:
Massage topically, diluting if needed for sensitive skin, over affected areas, or take internally in a capsule or glass of water. Also, can be added to grapefruit essential oil to make it even more effective.
Emotional Balance: Use aromatically in a diffuser, or add a few drops to palm of hands and inhale deeply to help take you from feeling unproductive to feeling flourishing.
For morning sickness: Apply under the nose or put in a glass of water or in a capsule and take internally.
Constipation: Use along with peppermint and ginger in a capsule or glass of water to help bowels move. You can also rub on abdomen or bottom of feet to get the same effect.
Fennel has properties to help loosen tight muscles and prevent spasms, so it is a great oil to use in any blend for relieving cramps associated with PMS. Add it to a lotion or carrier oil anytime you feel that tightness or pressure.
