I know I am not the only one out there with Fibromyalgia that is always looking for ways to treat it. Have you ever thought about using essential oils for fibromyalgia? It is one of the ways I use to help with some of my fibromyalgia symptoms.
Using Essential Oils for Fibromyalgia
What You Need to Know Before You Start
The web is overloaded with so-called ‘facts’ about fibromyalgia and even more so about essential oils. There’s helpful info out there but personally, I find most of it misleading, confusing and downright dangerous. A person’s health is nothing to play with. Because of that, I wanted to share a little of what I know about using essential oils for fibromyalgia.
Essential oils will not cure fibromyalgia.
Yeah, I said it! Essential oils do offer many benefits and I highly recommend them but the folks that claim they are the fix-all for illness shouldn’t be trusted. It’s irresponsible to even suggest it.
Not everyone is going to have the same experience.
Just like the illness itself, essential oils can and do respond differently to a person’s chemistry and environment. Fibromyalgia has a long list of symptoms and each person will experience them in a different way. The cool part about essential oils is that there is enough variety you can find something to cater to each of those symptoms.
Just remember, don’t expect someone else to get the same result as you and vise versa. It IS different for every person.
Not everyone can use essential oils.
One common symptom of fibromyalgia is sensitivity and essential oils may help or aggravate those sensitivities. Many people will benefit from essential oils for fibromyalgia but not everyone. Those with fibromyalgia should introduce essential oils one at a time. That way they will truly understand how the oil affects them personally.
However, don’t let those sensitivities scare you away. Essential oils can offer amazing benefits when you find the right ones that work for you.
For those that do benefit, essential oils can be a new best friend. They have been shown to have powerful pain relieving properties and have been used for centuries to support physical and emotional health.
Essential Oils Can Be Enjoyed Many Different Ways
Aromatherapy is a gentle and effective way to begin your journey, experiment with, and enjoy the wonderful benefits that essential oils have to offer. I’ve found that diffusing the right combination of essential oils into the air can also provide comfort and support emotionally and mentally.
It’s super easy to use essential oils topically, too. All you have to do is place a few drops of the oil in a roller bottle and then you need to Dilute Essential Oils by filling the remaining bottle with a carrier oil.
Roller bottles work great because you can have them prepared ahead of time and take your oils with you when you are on-the-go. They’re a great way to enjoy combinations of oils.
Essential oils offer you flexibility and variety. If one way isn’t working with you there are countless other ways you can try them. There are many different ways you can make DIY products that can be used for the skin, in the bath and even throughout the home.
When you apply, inhale or consume essential oils they enter the bloodstream and send messages to the brain that initiate a response. That response is usually anti-inflammatory, pain-relieving or sedative but can be affected by a person’s body chemistry and their environment. There’s a reason that essential oil use has been on the rise…they work!
Most common essential oils for fibromyalgia.
Lavender:
Lavender essential oil is effective, versatile, gentle and affordable. We’re not talking about the lavender scented oil you find in department stores. Whenever purchasing essential oils they must be ‘true’ essential oils; if it has chemicals listed on the bottle it’s not the real deal. Lavender is highly regarded for the skin, calms the body and mind and works as a wonderful sleep aid.
Chamomile:
Chamomile is a beautiful plant and the oil is known to soothe and relax the body and can quiet an upset stomach and many other wonderful benefits too. It is an oil to try topically (be sure to use with a carrier oil) it’s also amazing as a tea.
Bergamot:
Because citrus essential oils tend to be strong, many often use Bergamot in their place. Bergamot essential oil combines well with other oils and offers a citrus-like aroma with a hint of spice. It also has a calming effect. It can be applied you can diffuse it or it is also great in things like shampoos or even goat milk soap.
Frankincense:
Frankincense is a powerful sedative with pain relieving properties. It has a strong aroma but many sensitive people use it because it reduces nerves and keeps nervousness and panic attacks at bay. You can make a DIY pain relief gel or cream by combining Frankincense and Lavender with a carrier oil, aloe gel or a non-scented moisturizer.
I hope I have shined a little light on essential oils for fibromyalgia. I shared only a few with you but there are tons out there that make work for you too. Essential oils DO work and I really do believe that most people will experience amazing benefits from them.
There isn’t a cure for fibromyalgia yet. However, through love, understanding and honest conversation, we can support those in the fibro community. If you haven’t tried essential oils but are on the fence about it, I say go for it!
